Canadian drone manufacturer Superwake has received Transport Canada approval for a Pre-Validated Declaration under Standard 922.10, covering the detect-and-avoid (DAA) capability of its SW-117 long-endurance drone.
The approval enables the SW-117 to conduct beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations using Superwake’s proprietary DAA system, according to the company. Transport Canada’s Standard 922.10 sets requirements for systems that detect conflicting air traffic and enable the remotely piloted aircraft or pilot to take avoidance action.
Superwake said the approval follows a staged flight-test programme used to support its regulatory safety case. The company said the capability will allow the SW-117 to conduct long-endurance intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), surveying and communications relay missions in remote and northern regions without visual observers.
