The Dutch Ministry of Defence (Defensie) is looking to expand its ReDrone counter-uncrewed aerial system (C-UAS).
Elbit Systems was awarded the USD 55 million contract in 2023 to supply its integrated multi-layered C-UAS system to the Netherlands armed forces.
The current system provides non-kinetic capabilities and the new requirement introduces kinetic effectors to increase operational range and lethality. This involves the integration and delivery of six interceptor drones, enabling the system to not only ‘hijack’ but also physically destroy detected drones. Elbit has been selected to deliver the additional capability.
“Integration requires access to the ReDrone software source code to ensure seamless interoperability,” Defensie said in a TEDs notice. “Elbit, as the developer and owner of said code, is the only party capable of this task. The integration must not void the existing warranty, which is valid until at least January 2028. Only Elbit can guarantee this continuity. Due to the unique combination of software ownership and warranty requirements, no equivalent alternative exists. Therefore, no competition is possible.”
The project is slated for completion by December 1, 2026.
