Lyocon awarded contract for portable directed-energy laser C-UAS

Nuburu subsidiary, Lyocon S.r.l. has secured an initial deployment order for its portable directed-energy laser ‘dazzler’ system for counter-uncrewed aerial systems (C-UAS) applications. The order is from an unnamed government-owned defence electronics organisation that is operating within a centralised government procurement framework in an Asia-Pacific defence market.

Lyocon’s C-UAS platform uses Nuburu’s semiconductor laser expertise and is engineered to provide non-kinetic optical countermeasures. According to the company, it has a multi-wavelength configuration (green, blue, infrared), scalable optical power, adjustable beam divergence, precision beam control and dynamic regulation, a lightweight, rifle-mounted architecture and compatibility with standard military platforms. The system is designed to disrupt UAS visual and sensor systems, and degrade electro-optical and infrared payloads.

The initial deployment order is valued at approximately USD 250,000. It represents the first commercial deployment within a broader engagement framework and follows prototype development and testing, production-prototype validation and technical evaluation performance verification.

In parallel with the initial deployment, Lyocon and the customer are engaged in ongoing discussions regarding a potential second-phase programme expected to include lower-power system configurations, expanded operational deployment scenarios and broader production scope across additional units. This potential Phase 2 opportunity could range between approximately USD 575,000 and USD 800,000, subject to further technical validation, evolving operational requirements and formal contractual agreements.

Subject to successful execution of the initial deployment, a follow-on programme could be formalised within 2026, with deliveries anticipated in 2027.
