Nuburu’s Lyocon completes proof-of-concept for portable directed energy laser C-UAS

Nuburu’s wholly owned subsidiary Lyocon S.r.l. has successfully completed the proof-of-concept of a portable directed-energy laser dazzler platform designed for counter-uncrewed aerial systems (C-UAS) defence applications. This represents Nuburu’s entry into the C-UAS market, expanding its directed-energy capabilities.

The Lyocon C-UAS system is designed to generate optical interference capable of disrupting UAS sensors and visual systems, enabling a non-kinetic mitigation approach against drone threats. It uses Nuburu’s semiconductor laser capabilities and is built around a compact and modular directed-energy architecture designed for field deployment. It can be rifle-mounted and the company says it is compatible with standard military small-arms platforms. The modular architecture of the system also enables integration into broader counter-drone platforms.

Features include a multi-wavelength directed-energy configuration comprising a green laser band, blue laser band and Infrared (IR) band. It has adjustable beam divergence from 2.5 to 30 mrad, dynamic beam regulation and precision collimation.

Lyocon has been engaged in structured technical validation activities with an unnamed government-owned defence electronics company. This has included prototype trials and the technology platform has progressed through technical evaluation and validation stages. The parties have also begun discussions regarding potential procurement, including the negotiation of a possible supply agreement.

The 2026 Unmanned Airspace Global Counter-UAS Systems Directory is now available. The Guide is the world’s only comprehensive, continually updated directory of global C-UAS companies and systems. It itemises over 1,000 C-UAS products and services with performance details, company sales and partnerships arrangements. It is updated every month and broken down into niche sub-sectors (net-capture, missiles, intercept drones, detectors etc) to give C-UAS procurement and industry personnel a unique perspective of global C-UAS technical capabilities and market positions. It is available in word, PDF and excel formats and Unmanned Airspace readers are eligible for a range of discounts.
