Japan issues call for emergency drone operation projects

Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) has issued a call for proposals for emergency drone operation projects.

Japan expects drone logistics to be a means of resolving local social issues, such as maintaining logistics networks for daily necessities and pharmaceuticals in remote islands and mountainous areas, and transporting supplies during disasters.

MLIT is interested in proposals for projects “aimed at ensuring a regional emergency relief supply transport system by conducting drone supply transport training in collaboration with logistics companies, local governments, NPOs and other relevant organisations regarding the use of drones to transport emergency relief supplies during disasters.”

The application period is now open and runs until November 27. MLIT expects to make its grant decision by February 13, 2026.
