Mississippi State University’s Raspet Flight Research Laboratory’s partnership with Boeing’s Aurora Flight Sciences is developing beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drone operations for emergency response operations.
The project aims to support first responders by developing a process manual to help navigate the Federal Aviation Administration’s BVLOS waiver process.
The effort focuses on testing Aurora’s SKIRON-X vertical take-off and landing platform over long-range missions. The university said the team’s extensive flight logs and operator feedback will help refine the platform for first responders while also shaping the concepts of operation for the aircraft.
