The Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority announced on June 29 that they will begin the ‘K-Drone Excellent Business’ selection contest today, June 30, to discover and foster domestic drone manufacturer and operator companies.
The key is to discover the best companies based on performance by focusing on evaluating domestic technology, export performance and complete product development capabilities, and to link them with support for commercialisation and overseas expansion.
The contest selects companies that have contributed to industrial development and safety improvement as ‘excellent businesses’ among drone manufacturers and operators. The system for designating excellent drone businesses was created in March and will be implemented for the first time in the second half of this year.
Any company that has been a drone operator for more than three years can apply for selection. Among other requirements, they will need to demonstrate steps taken to ensure drone flight safety. The government agencies will evaluate the manufacturing and utilisation sectors separately.
Applications for the contest will be accepted until Thursday, July 31, and the final selection will be made in November after approximately three months of document and on-site evaluations.
Selected operators will be granted a certificate and certification mark, and will be given benefits such as additional points when selected for drone commercialisation support projects and overseas expansion support projects promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Benefits of simplifying administrative procedures such as special flight approval and safety certification inspection are also being reviewed.
