Harvest Technology joins Inmarsat Velaris solution to expand secure high-definition connectivity

Satellite communications company Inmarsat has added Harvest Technology Group to its Velaris connectivity solution. A specialist in ultra-low bandwidth livestreaming technology, Harvest becomes the second company to join the network after Unmanned Traffic Management service provider Altitude Angel.

The combination of Inmarsat’s Velaris connectivity solution and Harvest’s Network Optimised Livestreaming technology aims to support commercial operators of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to securely stream high-definition (HD) video, images, voice and data in real-time to decision makers using a fraction of existing bandwidth resources, says a joint press release.

The ability to stream aerial footage and important sensory data allows UAV operations to be managed remotely, with an 80% reduction in data usage on existing networks. This enhances critical decision-making and limits the need to put personnel in dangerous or costly environments, both in industry settings and in supporting emergency rescue, disaster relief and crisis response efforts.

Harvest’s solution offers secure live UAV operations for remote inspection or response teams, clients and any necessary third-party, enabling a team to see developments happening in real time whether in a control room back at base, or watching on a laptop. Harvest’s UAV inspection solution enables Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations over Inmarsat’s Velaris satellite connectivity.

Inmarsat’s Velaris Partner Network was launched in October 2021, with leading UTM technology provider Altitude Angel as the inaugural member, followed now by Harvest.
