Ukraine and NATO develop AI model to predict enemy drone attacks

Ukraine and NATO have developed an artificial intelligence model designed to predict enemy drone attacks near the line of contact, using historical data, weather conditions and the current battlefield situation, according to the Ukrainian ministry of defence.

Code-named Model No. 13, the tool was jointly developed by NATO’s Allied Command Transformation (ACT) and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, with support from the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC).

The model forecasts the intensity, locations and timeframes of potential drone attacks, as well as the types of unmanned aerial vehicles likely to be deployed. According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence, the solution has been validated using real-world datasets and refined for operational use.

The model is ready for integration into the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s situational awareness systems, according to the ministry. It was presented during a three-day seminar in Vilnius, Lithuania, attended by NATO and Ukrainian military experts.
