UPS Flight Forward completes BVLOS delivery in Florida using Matternet M2 cargo drone

UPS Flight Forward reports successful completion of a drone delivery in Florida by an operating pilot located at UPS’ remote operations centre in Fisherville, Kentucky. The UPS operations team used the Matternet M2 aircraft operating beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS). The flight is the culmination of multiple teams working together since 2019, says the company.

Preparatory work included risk assessments and mitigation measures to ensure the highest level of safety. The company’s safety management systems and processes are central to continued operations in parcel delivery.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted UPS Flight Forward (UPSFF) and Matternet M” approval to conduct beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) small package delivery operated from their remote operations centre. Data collected from these operations will inform the FAA’s ongoing policy and rulemaking activities.
