Switzerland’s Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) and the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) in Cologne on June 10 to strengthen cooperation in the field of uncrewed aerial systems.
FOCA says the drone industry is booming with demand for complex, beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) flights increasing. To safely integrate this technology into the national aviation system, Switzerland and the UK, along with other countries, have developed joint rules for licensing and certification.
“Until Brexit in 2020, Switzerland and the UK worked closely together in international drone forums,” FOCA said on June 10. “Both countries have a strong interest in innovation- and SME-friendly regulations in the drone sector. Therefore, FOCA and CAA have now signed a LOI to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and data in the areas of drones, airspace modernisation and widespread visibility for all airspace users.”
