Skellefteå Droneport to open on June 10

Sweden’s Skellefteå Droneport will be inaugurated on June 10, the Arctic Aviation Hub has announced.

The facility is intended to become a central hub for the development, research, and education of drone-related solutions. Both local and global players will be able to use the site to test, develop, and commercialise drone services.

Skellefteå has a cold and challenging climate, offering a suitable testing ground for drone solutions that need to work year-round. The region also has a significant rural population, making drone technology a potential solution to transportation challenges in the area. Additionally, the airspace is relatively free from dense air traffic and is outside controlled airspace zones. Visual line of sight (VLOS) flight heights up to 120 metres will be permitted with on-site competence to apply for  beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) flight permits.
