EUROCONTROL workshop identifies U-space implementation solutions

A workshop on uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) and U-space regulations and implementation, and the airspace risk assessment (ARA) method and guidelines was held in The Hague on 13-14 January 2025.

The event was conducted by the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub and hosted by the Ministry of Transport of the Netherlands as part of EUROCONTROL’s Support to State activities. The workshop marked the official launch of support to the Netherlands for conducting their ARA.

Laurent Renou, head of air transport innovation at EUROCONTROL said in a linkedIn post that the workshop gathered 45 participants, including representatives from the local civil aviation authorities and air navigation service providers, as well as airports, policymakers, the military, port authorities, the Netherlands Aerospace Centre, environmental authorities, data and IT experts and the UAS industry.

“The team received excellent feedback from a large, diverse and highly engaged audience,” Renou said. “The workshop not only provided valuable insights but also enabled important discussions that led to the identification of initial solutions regarding the U-space airspace scope and its future implementation. Moving forward, we will hold regular meetings with the CAA to assist them throughout the entire process, ultimately leading to the U-space designation over the Port of Rotterdam.”
