The US Army has selected Boeing and Anduril Industries to advance to the next phase of competition for the Integrated Fires Protection Capability (IFPC) Increment 2 Second Interceptor programme.
The interceptor is intended to protect fixed and forward operating bases against cruise missiles, militarised drones and other aerial threats. Boeing and Anduril will now move into detailed design, system development, integration and demonstration under the next phase of the competition.
The Boeing-Anduril design combines Boeing seeker technology and a compact airframe with a solid rocket motor (SRM) manufactured by Anduril. The companies said the interceptor is intended to address the midrange between short-range point-defence systems and longer-range systems.
Anduril said its SRM manufacturing capability in Mississippi is intended to support production of the interceptor. The company has invested more than USD100 million of its own capital in the facility and received USD58 million in Defense Production Act funding.
