SESAR ECHO project develops final concept of operations for higher airspace for consultation

The SESAR European Concept for Higher Airspace Operations (ECHO) project has delivered a final Concept of Operations (ConOps) to the SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking for finalisation in the coming months. The need for a high altitude airspace concept has been driven by accelerating demand for higher airspace from new aircraft operating at altitudes above FL500 and capable of week-long missions, as well as the fast-growing sector of the commercial space industry.

The new concept will help the European ATM system adapt quickly to include these new entrants in a safe and efficient manner.

ECHO is led by Eurocontrol alongside leading European industry, organisations, institutes and research centres.
