US Army includes counter drone technology in phase two of its xTechSearch 5 selection process

Fortem Technologies reports selection by the US Army as part of the xTechSearch 5 search for innovative technology. xTechSearch allows selected private sector companies to collaborate with the Army in tackling challenges to our national security, defense, and public safety, using innovative technologies developed within the private sector.

According to a press release issued by Fortem Technologies, the counter drone specialist was selected for its F700 DroneHunter, equipped with the autonomous ability to deliver radio frequency (RF) and directed energy weapons (DEW) countermeasures to small unmanned aircraft systems (SUAS) and drones. Fortem DroneHunter, the premier autonomous AI-enabled interceptor drone in the world, can deliver electronic counter-UAS mitigation devices close to the target, greatly increasing countermeasure effectiveness while simultaneously reducing collateral effects on friendly forces.

The xTechSearch competitions are sponsored by the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology (ASA(ALT)). xTechSearch continues to provide opportunities to uncover novel science and technology solutions by engaging with small businesses and non-traditional partners. The xTechSearch competition was launched in June 2018 as a way to revolutionize the way the Army attracts and encourages innovation. IT engages the non-defense business sector and start-up technology companies, with the Army Science and Technology ecosystem to leverage cutting edge technologies in support of the Army of the Future.

As part of this phase, Fortem will present its technology concept directly with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from the Army research and development, acquisition, and user communities. Up to 20 participating companies will move into the semi-finals, scheduled at the 2020 AUSA Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. from October 12-14, 2020.
