Ukraine selects Thales under the aegis of French ministry to design air defence system

Ukraine Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov has signed a contract with the French defence minister Sébastien Lecornu for the delivery of a complete short-range air defence system, including a Ground Master 200 radar, to help protect Ukraine.

The contract signed between the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, the French Ministry of the Armed Forces and Thales provides for the delivery of a complete short-range air defense system, including a Ground Master 200 (GM200) radar, a command and control center , a radio communications system and terminals designating the air threat. In Limours, the two ministers notably visited the chain of design, production and support of Thales military radars. Because threats are becoming more stealthy, agile, and swift, air defense systems must be able to detect and track any type of target, providing adequate information on moving objects, in the air, on the ground or on the water.

According to Thales, among the surface radars, the Ground Master family,  including the GM200, makes it possible to deal with the threats facing Ukraine: drones, or long-range threats such as cruise missiles, helicopters and fighter planes.
