Ukraine intercepted almost 92 percent of attack drones in May

According to the Ukrainian Air Force’s daily reports, Russia deployed 8,351 aerial attack assets during large-scale strikes last month. By comparison, the figure in April was approximately 6,700.

In May, Ukraine’s air defence intercepted 7,588 drones and missiles. the data shows that 8,150 launches were recorded, with 7,476 intercepted, resulting in an interception rate of 91.73%. Ukraine says the drone platforms used included Shahed, Gerbera and Italmas.

On May 13, a total of 1,567 drones and 56 missiles of various types were deployed during a single attack. The interception rate on that date reached 93% for drones and 72% for missiles. Another large and complex attack took place overnight into May 24. A distinctive feature of this large-scale attack was the use of numerous air attack assets with different flight characteristics, launched in several waves and flying almost simultaneously. During this attack, Ukraine said Russia launched 600 drones of various types and that air defenders intercepted 91% of them.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence says it is relying on support from partners to procure PAC-3 missiles for Patriot air defence systems. The matter was discussed with partners ahead of the next meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (Ramstein-format), scheduled for later this month.
