Connected Skies: First webinar announced for March 18

Following the announcement by the Global UTM Association (GUTMA) of the replacement of the recently cancelled Connected Skies event (which had been due to take place during MWC 2020 in Barcelona) with a series of Connected Skies webinars https://www.unmannedairspace.info/latest-news-and-information/gutma-to-replace-barcelona-connected-skies-event-with-series-of-webinars/, GUTMA has announced the first webinar in the series will take place on 18 March 18, 2020.

According to an association statement:

“GUTMA will aim to organise a series of short public virtual Connected Skies Webinars between now and 2nd of June when Harmonized Skies Singapore event takes place….Following the success of the first edition of GUTMA’s Connected Skies conference in Portland (OR) in 2019, GUTMA is hosting a follow-on online, where decision makers and influencers from both the mobile telecommunication and unmanned aviation industries will meet to strengthen the bridge between telcos and aviators.GUTMA Connected Skies – ONLINE aims to cross-pollinate the two industries and drive a harmonious integration of manned and unmanned aviation in the skies.”

The first on-line event is entitled “Drone operations today” and will take place on 18 March 2020, CET 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Drone operators and mobile network operators will present and discuss current use cases where mobile networks are being used to help drone operations and will outline the business case for each use case and also the benefits for public safety. Speakers include Jonathan Evans (Skyward), Reinaldo Negron (Wing) and Dan Czerwonka (Zipline).

Which supplemental data services can be provided for Drones? E.g., aviation weather, terrain and obstacle data, network coverage and service level, information about critical infrastructure, local events and flight restrictions, etc.

  • Drone services at the edge – business implications

What data can be collected, processed and stored at the edge of the mobile network to increase the scalability and value of drone services.
