Leonardo DRS launches new air defence radar

Leonardo DRS has begun initial production of its new cxMHR radar.

The cxMHR, short for C-Band Extended Multi-Mission Hemispheric Radar, is a digital, software-defined, C-band Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) system designed to detect, track and identify multiple aerial threats simultaneously, including drones.

It features four AESA radar panels, friend or foe identification, command-and-control and supporting peripherals, integrated into a single, ISO-containerised system that can be transported by air, land or sea and deployed on a single vehicle. Leonardo DRS said detection ranges extend beyond 90 kilometres against UAS and loitering munitions and beyond 330 kilometres against transport aircraft.
