Zipline’s early access drone delivery programme First Flight launched in Austin, Texas on 9 October. Under the programme, the first 5,000 residents get access to Zipline’s food and retail deliveries.
First Flight starts in Round Rock and will expand over time as Zipline grows its availability throughout Austin. The company announced its intentions for Austin operations when it expanded its team in July.
The company will use its electric, autonomous drones that have completed operations in more than 30 municipalities in four US States. Upon arrival, the drone stays more than 300 feet in the air while a pod containing the order descends to the ground on a tether.
