Germany to establish UAS and C-UAS regiment

The German Army is to establish a new regiment dedicated to uncrewed systems and countering them. Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said the new unit will be set up by 2027.

The regiment will consolidate uncrewed capabilities for reconnaissance, combat and interception of enemy drones – both in the air and on the ground. The unit will cover various ranges, from close and very close range, partly with small reconnaissance and combat drones, through medium range to long range. The regiment will include an electronic warfare company.

Pistorius said the unit will be part of the divisional troops of Division 2025, the 10th Armoured Division. He clarified that drones and counter-drone capabilities would continue to be integrated into the wider force in addition to the new regiment.
