Beijing has introduced stricter drone regulations, banning all uncrewed flights as well as the possession and storage of existing devices. The new rules will take effect on November 15 and apply across the capital.
Additionally, a no-fly zone for “non-essential flights” will be established in the city and its surrounding areas, effective from September 20.
“Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) flight activities are prohibited within the city’s administrative area,” the Beijing Municipal Government said on 13 September. “The possession, storage and transportation of UAVs and their core components into the city’s administrative area are also prohibited. The regulations further require special support units to establish safety management systems, clarify management responsibilities, prevent safety incidents and strictly adhere to relevant national regulations for flight activities under special support circumstances.”
Beijing’s entire airspace was declared a restricted zone in May, with all drone flights requiring approval before take-off. The new blanket ban is said to be a further step in ensuring Beijing’s airspace security.
The city said on 13 September that it would provide on-site buyback, scrapping and recycling, and mail delivery out of Beijing support for drone owners.
