The government of Qatar has issued Law No. (10) of 2026 on the Regulation of Unmanned Aircraft, giving the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority the power to regulate unmanned aircraft operations through a new legal framework. Establishing routes and airspace management are part of the new law. In its entirety the law covers:
- Determining the types and categories of unmanned aircraft that may be operated in the State, along with the technical specifications they must meet.
- Licences and permits – Issuing and renewing licences and operational permits for unmanned aircraft.
- Operational areas and altitudes – Designating the areas and maximum altitudes where unmanned aircraft operations are permitted.
- Airspace and flight routes – Specifying the airspace and flight routes in which unmanned aircraft are authorized to operate.
- Import and export – Establishing the rules and procedures governing the import and export of unmanned aircraft.
- Oversight and compliance – Supervising and monitoring unmanned aircraft operations to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
- Environmental protection – Establishing the conditions and measures necessary to safeguard the environment during the operation of unmanned aircraft.
“This Law responds to the rapid growth in the use of unmanned aircraft across commercial, research, and recreational sectors,” says the government decree. “It establishes a regulatory framework that enables individuals and businesses to benefit from this technology while ensuring the safety of air navigation and protecting the State’s airspace.”
