Drone manufacturer Carbonix has been granted the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia’s Safety Assurance Integrity Level (SAIL) III certification, enabling beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations in an area the size of Belgium.
With the certification, Carbonix’s fixed-wing drones can fly across the Surat Basin in southern Queensland for gas infrastructure inspection. The company says its drones are capable of flying for eight hours.
Carbonix is also working with the Australian National University on a series of wildfire-fighting trials.
