EUROCAE’s WG-105 progresses work on developing standards for airspace integration of drones

The latest meeting of EUROCAE’s WG-105 – tasked to develop the necessary standards to enable safe integration of UAS and RPAS into all classes of airspace – has recently concluded, according to a Linkedin post from Bertrand Riveill, Technical Programme Manager at EUROCAE.

The meeting moved forward some important work programmes. EASA’s detect and avoid (DAA) work-programme is progressing, and will soon launch an open consultation for two minimum operational performance standards (MOPs): DAA in Airspace Class A-G under IFR and DAA Radar in Airspace Class A-G under IFR, according to Bertrand Riveill.

A revision for ED-279 Generic Functional Hazard Assessment for UAS and RPAS has been started, led by Michael Allouche and the ED-318 Technical Specification for Geographical Zones and U-Space data provision and exchange will be revised under the watch of a new leader, Wing’s Brendan Hillis.

In 2026, WG-105 published two standards: ED-339 NID Data Exchange ICD for indirect exchanges between U-space service providers (USSPs) and between USSPs and Authorised Users and ED-341, guidelines for showing compliance with SAIL III and IV non-design related SORA Operational Safety Objectives.

SG-3 UTM has welcomed two new co-chairs – Stéphane Vaubourg from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Javier Camacho Font, from Collins Aerospace.

The WG-105 UAS work programme is divided into five subgroups:

  • SG-1 Detect and Avoid, chaired by @Johan Pellebergs (Saab)
  • SG-2 Command, Control & Communication Link, Spectrum and Security, chaired by Boris Resnick (Flyvercity)
  • SG-3 Unmanned Trafic Mangement, chaired by Stéphane Vaubourg (EASA – European Union Aviation Safety Agency) and Javier Camacho Font (Collins Aerospace)
  • SG-4 Design and Airworthiness, chaired by Michael Allouche
  • SG-6 Specific Operation Risk Assessment, chaired by Antidio Viguria Jiménez (Fundación Andaluza para el Desarrollo Aeroespacial)

The next Plenary Meeting will be held on November 24 and 25 in the EUROCAE offices in Saint-Denis, close to Paris.
