Ukraine MoD appoints defence technology adviser and discusses US air defence support

The Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov, has appointed Serhii “Flash” Beskrestnov as adviser on defence technology.

Fedorov noted that “Flash” is among the leading practical experts in drones, electronic warfare and the analysis of enemy decision-making. “He was the first to report on the use by Russians of FPV drones equipped with machine vision, as well as the use of jet-powered Shahed drones. His current primary focus is on systemic solutions to counter Russian strike and reconnaissance drones.”

In addition to advising Fedorov on defense technology, “Flash” will also analyse captured enemy equipment and evaluate new military developments.

The appointment follows Fedorov’s meeting last week with Julie S. Davis, the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Ukraine. Fedorov thanked the US for its assistance and spoke about ongoing work with partners to extend the long-term supply of critical U.S.-made defence technology.

“To protect the sky, it is crucial to have, as soon as possible, a clear forecast of air defence missile deliveries for this year and to build reliable supplies for the years to come,” Fedorov stated.

Both parties also discussed the organisation of joint analytics on the use of key US systems, including Patriot, HIMARS and others, drawing on battlefield data to enable both countries to jointly advance these systems and improve their effectiveness.

“We also gave particular attention to implementing the large-scale Drone Deal,” Fedorov said. “We are working to enable US partners to directly test Ukrainian drones without unnecessary bureaucracy.”
