Babasky demonstrates air defence system at Nigerian military facility

Nigeria’s UNICCON Group and subsidiary Babasky Technologies, which is part of a joint venture with the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), has successfully conducted a demonstration of indigenous tactical attack drones and air defence systems at a secured military facility in Kaduna State in collaboration with DICON.

The exercise demonstrated a suite of technologies designed to address modern asymmetric threats. “We are very big on electronic warfare, which we know is the direction of warfare today,” said Chairman of UNICCON Group, Professor Chuks Ekwueme. “The enemies are using these technologies. We should also be producing solutions to counter because we have to think ahead.”

The UNIKAM-M02, a locally developed multi-rotor loitering munition system, was demonstrated as well as wirelessly detonated munitions and UNICCON’s stationary/mobile detection, jamming and spoofing (DJS) system that is designed to protect critical infrastructure and military assets.

The company says that the DJS system is capable of identifying and tracking over 40 UAVs simultaneously and can detect drones up to 8km distant as well as the pilot’s position and drone speed. It is designed to disrupt C2 and navigation within a 3km radius. A whitelisting functionality is incorporated to enable ‘friendly’ UAVs to remain operational during active jamming.
