Epirus has successfully demonstrated its Leonidas counter-drone system to military observers at Camp Atterbury near Indianapolis, United States.
The company said in a LinkedIn post that Leonidas disabled all 61 drones across five flight scenarios. The demonstration peaked with a 49-drone swarm defeat, using one burst of electromagnetic interference.
Axios, which said it was the only media invited to cover the event, reported that various US military services and foreign countries, including some from the Indo-Pacific, were present.
Leonidas uses Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductors for counter-electronics effects. It has been validated through field testing, resulting in its selection for the US Army’s Indirect Fire Protection Capability–High-Power Microwave (IFPC-HPM) initiative. In July, Epirus announced a USD 43,551,060 contract from the US Army’s Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office that includes the delivery of two IFPC-HPM Generation II systems.
The Camp Atterbury demonstration follows a combined joint integrated air and missile defence live-fire exercise between the US Army and Philippine Air Force at Naval Station Leovigildo Gantioqui, in April.
