The Times of India and some Iraq-based media are reporting this morning that an explosive-laden drone was shot down near Erbil International Airport earlier today. The airport is home to a base for US troops and has previously been targeted by drone attacks.
A video shared by The Times of India shows an object in the skies near the airport, the object is intercepted and an “explosion” is heard.
Another report, by One India, says the “Iranian drone” was travelling towards the US Consulate.
The counterterrorism services of the Kurdistan region said there were no casualties as a result of the action, according to media reports.
There has currently been no official statement from the US Department of Defense.
