Kerr County, Texas is reminding citizens to ground their drones until the current flood search and rescue operations are complete.
Yesterday (July 7), a drone operating in Kerr County’s currently restricted airspace collided with a helicopter involved in emergency operations. The helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing and is now out of service until further notice.
“This was entirely preventable,” a statement on Kerr County’s socials read. “Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) are not suggestions. They are federal airspace rules designed to protect lives during emergency situations. When you fly a drone in restricted areas, you’re not just breaking the law – you’re putting first responders, emergency crews, and the public at serious risk.”
More than 100 people have died as a result of the flooding in Texas, with over 150 still missing.
