SESAR 3 JU partners commit to optimisation of flight operations through digital innovation

A total of 400 stakeholders gathered in Brussels on 10 October for the second SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking Annual Conference, which saw the launch of a campaign to update the European ATM Master Plan 2024, the roadmap for the modernisation of Europe’s air traffic management aiming to deliver “the most efficient and environmentally-friendly sky to fly in the world”, says the press release.

Under the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Conference gathered the EU aviation community – including representatives from the European Commission, the European Parliament, Member States, as well as industry leaders, research centres, SMEs and universities – to discuss and reflect on the successes of the SESAR 2020 programme and future priorities for delivering the Digital European Sky.

More than 36 SESAR projects were on display at an exhibition showcasing the work that is being done under the auspices of the SESAR 3 JU in key areas from connected ATM to U-space and air-ground integration and from multimodality and the aviation green deal, to capacity-on-demand, virtualisation and cyber security.

Against the backdrop of the event, industry associations issued a Joint Industry Declaration, committing to rapid and united action to make European airspace the most efficient and environmentally-friendly sky to fly in the world. The declaration acknowledges the need to boost cooperation and investment on breakthrough innovations, which will deliver the Digital European Sky and contribute to reducing aviation’s climate impacts.
