Zipline expands Walmart deliveries in Dallas

Following a period of tests and trials, Zipline has officially expanded its drone delivery service to the Dallas area through a partnership with Walmart.

On April 8, the first drones departed from Walmart’s Mesquite-based “supercentre”, lifting off to 300 ft before travelling to their drop-off locations.

Walmart customers can sign up for the service which aims to deliver orders within 30 minutes using Zipline’s P2 Zip drones. Using a droid and tether, the drones are designed to land the order on a space as small as a table or doorstep. More than 65,000 items are available through the service which runs seven days a week from morning to 8 p.m.

Zipline plans to reach up to 75 percent of the Dallas-Fort Worth area and will be hosting a community event on April 12 at the Mesquite Walmart where local residents can learn more about the service and see the drones in action.
