Kenya launches national drone corridor

The Kenyan Civil Aviation Authority has approved a national drone corridor at the Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) in Machakos, approximately 60km from Nairobi.

The corridor would be Kenya’s first controlled airspace dedicated to beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drone operations. KoTDA said it would be a launchpad for scalable, commercially viable drone solutions that would contribute to national development. The drone corridor will also provide a collaborative ecosystem for testing, training, research and innovation.

KoTDA said in a statement that it would minimise risks to manned aircraft as well as to people and property on the ground. The authority, which is a science and innovation project of the Kenyan government, is inviting local and international stakeholders to engage with the corridor.
