Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) has issued a call for proposals for emergency relief drone projects. The subsidised Study Project on the Transport of Disaster Supplies Using Drones aims to develop a regional emergency relief supply transport system by conducting drone supply transport training in collaboration with logistics companies, local governments, NPOs, and other relevant organisations regarding the use of drones to transport emergency relief supplies during disasters.
MLIT’s request for proposal documents state that eligible businesses are consortia or councils, etc., consisting of private companies, local governments, etc. engaged in drone logistics.
“Drone logistics is expected to be a means of resolving local social issues, such as maintaining logistics networks for daily necessities and pharmaceuticals in remote islands and mountainous areas, and transporting supplies during disasters,” MLIT said. “To ensure smooth and rapid transport of emergency relief supplies using drones during disasters, it is necessary to ensure social acceptance of drone-based transportation even during peacetime, and to consider optimal drone operation in situations where disaster operations are congested.”
Applications opened August 25, 2025 and close September 24, 2025. The project period is currently expected to run from the date of the grant decision until Friday, February 13, 2026.
