Further tests for Prime Air delivery before operations launch in Italy

A meeting between Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) and Amazon Prime Air was held on June 19 to evaluate the progress of a drone delivery project in San Salvo, following initial tests at the end of 2024.

ENAC has established two sandboxes aimed at monitoring and validating the operations that, before the service comes into operation, will be tested on the basis of a recent technical regulation.

Alexander D’Orsogna, Director General of ENAC, said the authority is proceeding with the sandbox testing programme to ensure the highest safety standards. “These tests will allow us to define the next steps towards the start of commercial operations following a gradual and controlled approach.”

Meanwhile, ENAC Enac President Pierluigi Di Palma said that the project has moved from being an “ambitious and futuristic” concept to actual “concrete” operations.
