A U-space event, hosted by Hamburg Aviation, Windrove and EUROCONTROL on June 25 demonstrated the value of collaborative projects like BLUSpace, which aim to manage uncontrolled actors in urban airspace.
The demonstration at the Tollerort cargo terminal showed how HHLA Sky’s software already enables secure BVLOS drone operations in the Port of Hamburg.
In a LinkedIn post about the event, drone sensor specialist Kratena said that in a complex environment like Hamburg, shaped by two major airports, segregated airspaces are “the only truly safe and viable solution for challenging metropolitan settings”.
Kratena also noted the positive open exchange of ideas and spirit of development. The company called for a legal framework that enables innovation instead of slowing it down. “U-space is a great starting point, but Germany’s aviation laws must be updated for the 21st century. This requires political attention and resources.”
