EASA finalises guidelines on noise measurements for drones operating in the specific category

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has finalised guidelines on noise measurements for drones below 600 kg in the specific category (low and medium risk). These guidelines were consulted upon in 2022 and review of the 90 comments received from UAS manufacturers, operators, academia and national aviation authorities resulted in this publication.

In addition to the guidelines, EASA is also providing a template for a typical noise report that applicants or declarants can use to submit noise data, as well as a self-explanatory spreadsheet assisting the noise adjustment procedures.

Key points:
▶️Please note the scope: drones below 600kg operated in the specific category (low and medium risk)
▶️The use of the guidelines are voluntary.
▶️They describe how to perform noise measurements in a consistent manner.
▶️No noise limits are defined
▶️ if the procedures are used, manufacturers are expected to report to EASA and a report format has been provided.

Those wishing to measure and report UAS noise levels according to these procedures can submit the data to noise@easa.europa.eu with the [UAS Noise] mention in the email subject.

The publication is available here
