Ukraine develops remote command-and-control of its C-UAS interceptor air defences

Ukraine’s Minister of Defence Mykhailo Fedorov reports the country is developing the capability to launch networks of counter-UAS interceptor drones from remote command-and-control facilities.

“We are launching a new level of ‘small’ air defence. Now, control of interceptors is possible at a distance of thousands of kilometres,” Fedorov has written on the Telegram messaging app. “Today we have a confirmed result — downing a target at a distance of hundreds and thousands of kilometres. Ukraine is the first in the world to systematically scale remote control of interceptor drones.”

Ukraine’s Defender Media reports more than 10 Ukrainian manufacturers have joined the initiative to develop remote command-and-control for interceptor drones, facilitated through the Brave1 platform

“Remote control technology allows operators to manage interceptor drones over distances ranging from hundreds to thousands of kilometres,” says the publication. “According to available data, such systems have already demonstrated the capability to engage aerial targets at significant ranges. The solution decouples operators from specific deployment positions. Command can be exercised from fortified or protected locations, significantly mitigating risks to personnel and enabling broader operational deployment without requiring proximity to the frontline,” said the report.

According to media reports, Ukraine’s C-UAS interceptor developed Wild Hornets carried out a flight over more than 1,240 miles (2,000 kilometers).” The operator was based in northern Ukraine, the company said, and remotely controlled the Sting interceptor drone using its Hornet Vision Ctrl system, which is now being deployed at scale. “In March and April, reports emerged about F-Drones implementing remote-control systems on LITAVR interceptors and about successful trials of the HORNET VISION Ctrl system on Sting drones by Wild Hornets. SkyFall, the company behind the P1-SUN interceptors, also told Defender Media that it has integrated remote-control capabilities.”

The April edition of the 2026 Unmanned Airspace Global Counter-UAS Systems Directory is now available. The Guide is the world’s only comprehensive, continually updated directory of global C-UAS companies and systems. It itemises over 1,000 C-UAS products and services with performance details, company sales and partnerships arrangements. It is updated every month and broken down into niche sub-sectors (net-capture, missiles, intercept drones, detectors etc) to give C-UAS procurement and industry personnel a unique perspective of global C-UAS technical capabilities and market positions. It is available in word, PDF and excel formats and Unmanned Airspace readers are eligible for a range of discounts. For more information about the Directory please contact the editor Philip Butterworth-Hayes at philip@unmannedairspace.info.
