Spain’s air navigation services provider, ENAIRE and the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) have signed a collaboration agreement to establish a chair focused on research, technological innovation and specialised training in air traffic management services, including the integration of drones into the airspace.
The chair, based at the Higher Technical School of Aeronautical and Space Engineering (ETSIAE) and directed by Professor Fernando Gómez Comendador, has been named Development of Air Traffic Management Services and Systems. ENAIRE will contribute an economic contribution of 55,000 euros to finance the chair, which will be paid in a single annual payment.
ENAIRE-UPM teams will be created for various projects, with priority areas identified as the integration of drones into airspace as well as route optimisation, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. They will participate in the European SESAR 3 projects.
