Greece and Israel join forces against drone swarm threats

Greece and Israel are to collaborate on countering drone threats, including those from drone swarms.

Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias and Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz met on January 20 as Greece embarks on a multi-billion euro defence modernisation programme.

“We agreed to exchange views and know-how to be able to deal with drones and in particular swarms of unmanned vehicles and groups of unmanned subsea vehicles,” Dendias said. “We will also work together in order to be ready to intercept cyber threats.”

Greece’s defence modernisation programme commenced last year and is set to run until 2036. It allocates between EUR 2 billion and 2.5 billion per year to boost the country’s defence against new and emerging threats. This includes the Achilles Shield, an anti drone and wider air defence network that will incorporate Israeli sensors and systems.
