Sora secures funding to scale AI-powered drone malaria control across Africa

The African Drone Forum has announced that Sora Technology, a Japanese health tech startup using drones and artificial intelligence to combat infectious diseases, has secured an additional USD 2.5 million in its late seed round, bringing total funding to USD 7.3 million.

“The investment will accelerate the expansion of SORA Malaria Control, a programme already active in more than 10 African countries, including Ghana, Sierra Leone, Benin, DRC, Senegal, Kenya and Mozambique,” The African Drone Forum says.

SORA Malaria Control combines aerial photography data from Sora’s in-house developed fixed-wing drones, which cover large areas and integrate multiple AI technologies, to identify and manage puddles with a high risk of serving as habitats for mosquito larvae.

A spokesperson from The African Drone Forum says initiatives like Sora’s demonstrate how drone technology is moving beyond logistics and surveillance to play a direct role in public health, disease prevention and life-saving impact.
