Vodafone, Frequentis, the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and the Rostock Fire Brigade are testing drones for rescue missions.
The drones transmit initial aerial images directly to the control centre before emergency service crews arrive, and their use can reduce emergency response times by around seven minutes. T
he ADELE funding project uses 5G-controlled drones to provide the live images. If an emergency call is received that requires the deployment of a drone, the drone is automatically dispatched directly from the control centre. It flies beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) to the scene of the emergency and transmits high-resolution live video data directly to the control centre via Vodafone’s 5G real-time network. Vodafone’s 5G technology is combined with control centre software from Frequentis.
After the first initial flights, the long-term goal is to integrate drone deployment into the daily routine of authorities and organisations.
