Ukraine’s deputy defence minister meets with industry to discuss evolving C-UAS needs

Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Defence Valerii Churkin held a working meeting with representatives from the defence industry last week, including developers of drones, electronic warfare systems and radar technologies. The discussion was focussed on countering enemy drones and also included participants from the Ukrainian General Staff and relevant scientific institutions.

The primary goal of the meeting was to coordinate joint actions for developing a technologically integrated system using new drone-based solutions. Participants discussed approaches to designing an effective architecture for the system, potential technical requirements for its components, and mechanisms for interaction among its elements.

“Coordination between developers, scientists, and the Defence Forces significantly accelerates the path from concept to practical solution. In the context of highly dynamic combat operations, this is of critical importance,” noted Valerii Churkin, adding that the next phase of the Defence Ministry’s programme focuses on developing scalable solutions that operate with minimal reliance on human resources.

In related news, Kongsberg announced on June 22 that it will develop and deliver air defence missiles to Ukraine and establish a permanent office in Kyiv.

“There is an urgent need to produce more cost-effective air defence missiles in large volumes, to deal with threats from attacking drones. Together with our Ukrainian partner, and with support from the Norwegian authorities, we look forward to developing an effective missile that we can manufacture and deliver in large numbers and that can be integrated with the NASAMS air defence system,” said Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.
