Poland’s Advanced Protection Systems SA (APS) has won a Lithuania’s Ministry of National Defence contract for “stationary systems for detecting and neutralising unmanned aerial vehicles”.
“These systems will be used to protect strategic energy facilities,” according to a ministry statement. “The procurement was carried out at the request of the Ministry of Energy and with the funds of energy companies.
“In the event of aggression against Lithuania, the Lithuanian Armed Forces will take over the management of anti-drone systems at energy facilities, integrating them into a common air defense system. This decision strengthens the country’s overall defense capability, especially considering the rapid development of drone technologies and the challenges they pose to the security of critical infrastructure,” says Minister of National Defense Dovilė Šakalienė.
“Anti-drone systems will operate using advanced detection technologies, including radars, radio frequency detectors, and optical and infrared sensors. Electronic warfare, kinetic solutions, and GPS jamming or spoofing methods will be used for neutralization. The systems will be integrated with other defense systems, air defense networks, and electronic intelligence systems.”
The procedures were carried out in accordance with applicable legal requirements and best practices to ensure efficient use of finances. Three suppliers participated in the purchase, and the equipment of the Polish manufacturer “Advanced Protection Systems SA” was selected, all components of which met the requirements set out in the technical specification.
