UTM expected to contribute to ADS-B market growth

A new IndexBox report on the global Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) System market says growth will be driven in part by uncrewed traffic management (UTM) requirements.

The report, which forecasts the period from 2026 to 2035, says the proliferation of uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) and the development of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) ecosystems will create a substantial new addressable market for lightweight, low-cost ADS-B solutions. It also cautions however, that this market segment will have distinct price-point pressures.

IndexBox says UTM is the highest-growth potential segment, though from a smaller base than other segments such as General Aviation, ATM and military operations.

“Regulatory frameworks for UAS, particularly for commercial BVLOS operations, are increasingly mandating some form of electronic conspicuity, with ADS-B being a leading candidate for larger UAVs operating in controlled airspace,” IndexBox says. “For the nascent AAM sector (e.g., air taxis), ADS-B is envisioned as a core component of the detect-and-avoid (DAA) and traffic management ecosystem.”

The report notes that demand through 2035 will be driven by the commercialisation of drone delivery, infrastructure inspection and AAM passenger services.

“The demand is for miniaturised, low-power, and cost-optimized ADS-B solutions, which presents both a challenge and an opportunity for avionics suppliers to innovate on form factor and price.”
