The European U-ELCOME Digital Sky Demonstrators Project, part of the SESAR Joint Undertaking, has obtained Technology Readiness Level 8, certifying that U-space services are ready for operational implementation.
Launched in November 2022, the U-ELCOME project has been working to get Europe-wide U-space implementation off the ground by fostering a fully scalable market uptake of U-space services through a set of tests and demonstrations in various operational environments across 15 locations in Spain, Italy, and France.
“The project demonstrated the full maturity of the U1 (Registration, Identification and Geo-awareness) and U2 (ATM Monitoring, Tracking and Interface) services in accordance with the European Regulation (EU) 664/2021, promoting a scalable market for the integration of drones in European airspace,” Italian air navigation services provider and leader of the Italian U-ELCOME cluster, ENAV said.
