The U-Space Berlin testbed officially launched yesterday (August 25) as part of Germany’s Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises Real-Labore programme to develop solutions that improve quality of life.
U-Space Berlin is a three-year initiative to test the technology, social, environmental and ecological impact of drones. Deliveries of medical products and food are being tested in an industrial park southeast of Tempelhof-Schöneberg as part of the project.
The team will work with partners (Startup Colors UG/Applied Data Incubator, Technical University of Berlin, DiAvEN Labfly UG, marktschwalbe UG, Murzilli Consulting / M&K Germany GmbH, and Akkon University of Applied Sciences) to examine benefits, legal issues and potential risks, select flight routes, and develop regulatory best practices.
