Spain launches new portal for U-space coordination

Spain’s Ministry of Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda has launched a new portal for the coordination of U-Space, reports the Canary Islands Aeronautical and Aerospace Cluster (CAAC).

This initiative, promoted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, seeks to establish a regulatory and technological framework for the integration of manned and unmanned aircraft, in line with European guidelines. CAAC says the portal will automate flight clearances, manage beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations, prevent collisions in real time, and facilitate services such as express deliveries and infrastructure monitoring.

In addition to the portal, the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (MITMA) is working in collaboration with Spanish air navigation services provider Enaire and other industry players to deploy technological infrastructure to support U-Space, such as secure communications networks and real-time monitoring systems.

The project is part of the Strategic Plan for the Development of the Drone Sector 2021-2025, which provides for an investment of more than EUR 4.5 billion in the sector.
