The Spanish Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) reports that the validity of the national standard scenarios (STS-ES) in Spain for drone operations in the ‘specific’ category will end on 31 December 2025 under cover of an operational declaration.
AESA, through the Resolution of the Management of the State Aviation Safety Agency approving National Standard Scenarios (STS-ES), defined the characteristics and conditions of the national STS-ES standard scenarios for drone operations in the ‘specific’ category under cover of an operational declaration. On 1 January 2024, a coexistence period between the STS-ES and the STS-EU was established to facilitate the transition of operators and entities to the new scenarios. This period will end on 31 December.
Therefore, the declarations submitted for these STS-ES scenarios by drone operators and recognised training entities will cease to be valid from that date. This means that, from that day, it will not be possible to carry out operations under the national STS-ES standard scenarios, nor, therefore, to provide training in them.
“Recognised entities and UAS operators declared to provide training that have carried out remote pilot training in the national STS-ES scenarios before 31 December (inclusive), may submit the corresponding student declarations until 31 January 2026 (inclusive),” AESA stated. “Recognised entities and UAS operators declared to provide training that have conducted remote pilot training in the national STS-ES scenarios, as well as UAS operators that have conducted operations in the national STS-ES standard scenarios, are reminded that all documentation derived from their activity must be kept available to the authority, if requested, for at least three years from the time of its completion.”
